ASPL'S CSMSS MEDICAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL

Physiology

Physiology means a study of the normal functions and processes that create life. The study of Physiology is, in a sense, the study of life. It is the foundation of clinical medicine and it helps to understand basic pathophysiology, disease process. The major goal of teaching subject of Physiology to undergraduate and advanced learners is to provide comprehensive knowledge of normal functioning of various systems of human body to enhance better understanding of Physiological knowledge for health and disease.

Learning objectives
Knowledge
At the end of the course, the students will be able to:

a) With better understanding of the subject, students will be able to explain normal functioning of the various organ systems, their regulatory mechanisms and interactions of the various systems for well-coordinated body function for better health.

b) To understand individual contribution of each organ system in maintaining homeostasis i.e. constant internal environment of the body.

c) Explain role of physiological aspects of normal development progression in health and disease.

d) Correlate and describe variation of physiological response and its adaptation with disease and environment variations. It enables the students to correlate between the disease pathology and its management in contributing to the development of the core skills of a competent doctor.

e) Correlate knowledge of physiology of human reproductive system in relation to National Family Welfare Program.

Skills
It is expected that at the end of course the student shall be able to:

a) Conduct experiments designed for study of physiological phenomena. Innovate new ideas and design experiments for better understanding of the subject matter of Physiology in clinical practice and academics.

b) Interpret, correlate experimental observations and data obtained with health and disease.

c) Distinguish between normal and abnormal data derived as a result of tests which he/she has performed and observed in the laboratory.

Integration

Student shall gain an extensive and integrated knowledge, skill and ethical values of various systems and regulatory mechanisms to become a competent Indian Medical Graduate.
